CALCULATOR
Batch Recipe Calculator
Work out the raw materials for a batch of glass before you charge the furnace.
Inputs
How much finished glass you want, not how much batch you weigh out.
Cullet is already glass, so it melts faster and produces less gas — but it brings its own composition with it.

Things this does not account for
- Ratios are typical batch compositions, not proprietary recipes. Real melts vary with raw-material purity.
- Melting temperature is an estimate. Furnace design and cullet fraction move it by 50 – 100 °C either way.
- Adding cullet reduces both the melting energy and the batch cost, but changes the effective composition.
How this works
A glass batch is a recipe by weight, and it is not intuitive: roughly half of what goes in is lost as gas during melting, so 100 kg of sand does not give 100 kg of glass. This calculator applies the standard oxide ratios for the common glass families and works the numbers back from the glass you want rather than the sand you have.
